MOON ROCKS - PANEL VIII
Lunar rock thin section. Scientists study rocks in thin slices in the microscope. The colors are interference effects produced by viewing the section in polarized light. In the slide, the minerals can be identified and their intergrowths studied. The intergrowth seen here is known to occur when lavas are quickly cooled.
